Matt Rowberry je od roku 2010 vědeckým pracovníkem na oddělení inženýrské geologie. Promoval s vyznamenáním na University of Liverpool v roce 2003. Jeho doktorský výzkum na University of Wales, Aberystwyth, byl zaměřen na rekonstrukci tektonického a geomorfologického vývoje Walesu od otevření severního Atlantiku v raném Kenozoiku. Jeho další postdoktorský výzkum na University of Witwatersrand v Johannesburgu pokračoval v tomto zaměření rekonstrukcí tektonického a geomorfologického vývoje jižní Afriky od druhohorního rozpadu Gondwany. Od svého příchodu na oddělení inženýrské geologie se velká část jeho výzkumu soustředila na studium procesu rozpuštění vápence, aby bylo možné lépe pochopit jeho roli při formování jeskynních systémů. V současné době se jeho výzkum zaměřuje na: (1) monitorování koncentrace radonu na aktivních vulkanických ostrovech a aplikaci modelů časových řad – zejména z ekonometrie – na předpovědi jeho anomálií a (2) na vývoj a výrobu triaxiálních měřících systémů pro monitorování posunů na zlomech a trhlinách, které využívají algoritmy strojového učení. Díky tomu je možné předpovídat nežádoucí události včetně antropogenních a přírodních katastrof. Matt je aktivním členem Britské asociace pro výzkum jeskyní a členem Geologické společnosti v Londýně. Je také recenzentem v prestižních mezinárodních časopisech včetně Applied Radiation & Isotopes, Earth Science Reviews, Environmental Science & Pollution Research, Geological Magazine, Global & Planetary Change, Geomorphology, Journal of Cave & Karst Studies a Tectonophysics.
