Team from the Department of engineering geology compiled a database of giant landslides on volcanic islands. It is the first comprehensive database with worldwide coverage, containing 182 landslide records with a volume in the order of cubic kilometres. The purpose of the database is to contribute to the development of knowledge of these so far little explored processes.

Database has been published in the journal Landslides (Blahůt et al. 2019) and it has received first positive feedback, e.g. from Prof. D. Petley from the UK.

This global database of giant landslides on volcanic islands is hosted on the website of the Institute of Rock Structure & Mechanics: https://www.irsm.cas.cz/ext/giantlandslides. From there, the records can be downloaded as a spreadsheet or as a kml file for interrogation in a number of geospatial software programs including ArcGIS and Google Earth. This work is part of the activities of the International Consortium on landslides, namely, its International Programme on Landslides
