The project goal is to quantify activity of Sudetic Marginal Fault (SMF) during Quaternary up to present, and to characterize tectonic movements on the fault. Three approaches including different time spans of SMF evolution will be used: paleoseismologic study will aim to obtain new knowledge on seismogenic behavior of SMF and its spatial-temporal variability, potential earthquake magnitude, recurrence interval, and slip-rates. Data acquired by airborne LiDAR will provide detailed digital elevation model for analysis of fault-related landforms and offset features to assess long-term movements intensity. Monitoring using dilametometric gauges TM71 installed on the SMF and selected segments of San Andreas fault zone will measure present-day movements and will test validity of results obtained by other methods for model of the present-day faults behavior (e.g. GPS). By the end of the project, all obtained information will be published and can serve for a following seismic hazard and risk assessment.
