The idea of the GLOFs Database rised up due to long term experience with field works in Cordillera Blanca in Peru. This field work includes research on wide range of natural hazards such as dynamic slope movements, neotectonics and glacial lake outburst floods. The IPL Project No.179 "Database of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs)" has been adopted under the International Consortium on Landslides (ICL) at the Board of Representatives in Paris 2012. These activities fits into the research programme of World Centre of Excellence on Landslide Risk Reduction located at Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology.
