For several years, unique research on tectonic movements has taken place on the Svalbard Islands. The measurements in this corner of the world are done by fellows from the Institute of Rock Structure and Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences who use a special Czech-made 3-D device, TM71, to gauge all relative movements of two rock masses with high precision. Thanks to the great potential of their research, the researchers succeeded in recent years in extending work on the Svalbard Islands.
