Chemnitz Petrified Forest in Germany is one of the most spectacular Permian fossil forest sites around the world. A catastrophic event of rhyolitic explosive volcanism preserved the plant ecosystem in situ as a whole.
This paper by Petra Matysová and Ronny Rößler (Vesmir 93, 700-705 2014/12) deals with the newest scientific results crosswise geological branches based on miscellaneous data gained from a recent Chemnitz excavation.
